Virgin Mobile Peel for iPod Touch

Friday, May 13th, 2011

We’ve highlighted Virgin Mobile’s gear in the past for it’s non-contract/pay-as-you-go products, and the Peel is no exception.  While a jailbroken iPhone might be your best bet for a traveling phone, if you don’t have the chops to stay and pay for long contract, then an iPod Touch is a great substitute if you’ll be in the US for a bit. The Peel makes your iPod Touch into a pseudo-iPhone.

You simply slip the iPod Touch into the Peel case-like unit, and turn it on. Not only do you have 500mb of data for $20/month on Sprint’s network, but it also works as a wifi hotspot for one other wireless device (eg. your traveling partner’s tablet).

Of course, you have to buy the device upfront for $100, and it will really only be useful in the US, but it’s definitely a great option for those phone-less US travelers out there!

GeoTipper Available Now on the iTunes App Store!

Saturday, September 25th, 2010

Wow, we’re really excited to announce our biggest news yet. After a few months of work, we’re proud to announce the availability of our first native application available in the iTunes app Store. Though the idea started as an native app, due to a few production issues and time constraints, we decided to release it as a mobile webapp. But given all the interest, we decided to backtrack and ready it for the iphone because of travelers’ needs to have an offline app that operates quickly and without a data connection.

We’re really excited to continue development on it, as we’re working on polishing up a iPad-optimized version, and we’ve got some awesome other surprises up our sleeve. It’s currently available for $1.99 in the app store, and we guarantee that it’ll will save you more than that as you’re out there globetrotting.

Happy Travels!

Stream your Media instantly to your iOS device

Friday, September 10th, 2010

Imagine sitting in a cafe in Paris, wanting to watch a downloaded movie or ripped DVD on your iOS device while you sip your cappucino.   Your choices are limited to whatever you managed to cram into your iOS devices drive; even if you have a 64 gb iPad, you’ve potentially got a pretty good selection, but surely not your entire media library.  Your streaming choices from services like Hulu plus or ABC will detect that you’re outside the US and prevent you from viewing (unless you’re using a VPN).
